Rain likely to continue till end of month

DHAKA, July 25, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD)
today predicted that rain may continue till the end of the month.

The ongoing rain owing to active monsoon over the country is likely to
continue till the end of the current month, Arif Hossain, a meteorologist at
the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), told BSS today.

The entire country has been witnessing heavy rainfall for the last two
days while 228 mm rainfall was recorded in Cox’s Bazar and 60 mm in Dhaka in
the last 24 hours till 6 am today, according to the BMD.

However, 24 mm rainfall was recorded in the capital city from 6 am to 12
noon today.

Arif said due to active monsoon there is chances of heavy to very heavy
rainfall with gusty wind is likely to occur at places over Chattogram,
Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet, Dhaka, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions
during the next 24 hrs.

Due to very heavy rainfall landslides may occur at places over the hilly
regions of Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, he added.

Besides, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary South or South-
Eesterly gusty or squally wind speed 45-60 kph is likely to occur in the
regions of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka,
Faridpur, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla,
Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet in the next 24 hours till 6 pm today, a
Met bulletin said. River ports are advised to hoist cautionary signal number
one.

The maximum temperature was recorded 33.6 degree celsius yesterday at
Jashore in Khulna division while today’s minimum temperature 24.5 degrees
celsius at Faridpur and Cox’s Bazar.

The sun sets at 6:45 pm today and rises at 5:25 am tomorrow in the
capital.
