One ‘Ansar al-Islam’ militant arrested in city
DHAKA, June 19, 2021, (BSS) – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB),
in a drive, has arrested an active member of the banned militant outfit Ansar
al-Islam from the city’s Mohammadpur thana area.
The arrested is Mehraj Hossain Sourav, 19, of Bhola district.
Rapid Action Battalion-2 (assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP)
(media) Mohammad Fazlul Haque confirmed the information to BSS today.
RAB recovered extremist books and leaflets from him, he added.
He further said that being tipped-off, an elite team of RAB-2 raided
Salimullah Road under Mohammadpur thana around 8 pm on Friday and arrested
him.
The arrested militant Mehraj was a student of a private educational
institution in the capital, he said, adding that after dropping out the
educational institute, he was working to establish the so-called ‘Khilafat’
state in Bangladesh.
A case was filed against him with Mohammadpur police station.
The arrested militant was also handed over to the same police station
after preliminary interrogation.
