Bangladesh resumes first dose of COVID–19 vaccine campaign

DHAKA, June 19, 2021 (BSS) – The administering of the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine resumed today in 67 centres across the country as it has 11 lakh Sinopharm jabs to continue the nationwide drive.

“In Dhaka city, the vaccine campaign continued from 8am to 3pm in four public hospitals. Vaccine receivers will get two doses of Sonopharm shots during the drive,” Additional Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Nasima Sultana told BSS.

The four public hospitals of Dhaka city are Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital, Shaheed Shuhrawardy Medical College and Hospital and Mugda Medical College and Hospital, she added.

Nasima also added the campaign will continue till 3pm every day from today, except on Fridays and public holidays.

The health ministry sources said those completed registration will get priority to receiving jabs during the vaccination drive.

According to the DGHS, administering of first dose of COVID-19 vaccine was suspended on April 26. After suspending vaccination of first dose of coronavirus jabs, administering of second dose continued to complete two doses of vaccination course.

As many as 72,48,829 people have so far been registered for receiving the inoculation. On February 7, the countrywide COVID-19 vaccination campaign began with spontaneous participation of all levels of people for receiving vaccines from 1055 designated hospitals.

After launching the vaccination campaign, 58,20,015 people received first shot of COVID-19 vaccines while 42,50,167 got second doses of inoculation.
