RANGPUR, June 18, 2021 (BSS) – Religious speaker Abu Twa-ha Muhammad Adnan today retuned Rangpur city after eight days since hiding from June 10 last ‘probably’ for personal reasons.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Abu Maruf Hossain disclosed the information at a press conference held at the office of the Detective Branch of RpMP here this afternoon.

“Twa-ha with his companions Abdul Muhith and Firoz Alam and driver Amir Uddin were in hiding voluntarily mainly due to personal problems,” he said, quoting information gathered from Twa-ha so far.

Earlier, Twa-ha and his entourage left Rangpur for Dhaka at 4 pm on June 10 last by a rented car and again left Gabtoli in Dhaka on the same night for Rangpur.

On the way back to Rangpur, Twa-ha stayed at the house of his former acquaintance Siam in Trimohoni area of Gaibandha along with Abdul Muhith, Firoz Alam and driver Amir Uddin.

While straying there in hiding in Trimohoni area of Gaibandha, everyone switched off their used mobile phones so that none could trace out their locations.

“Earlier, Twa-ha told his traveling companions that he was suffering from personal problems, consulted with them and decided to go into hiding,” Maruf said.

He said police are also looking into whether there was any conspiracy to embarrass the state or the government by claiming that they were hiding voluntarily for personal problems.

Twa-ha is being interrogated currently in police custody at Kotwali police station of RpMP.

Quoting Twa-ha, the police official said Twa-ha has informed police of some of his personal problems and police are checking and sorting those out.

“If the police authorities think Twa-ha needs to be taken to court, legal action will be taken against him,” he said.

However, when asked about the personal reasons behind remaining in hiding, the police official said they could not say more at this time. That needs to be verified and the next step will be taken subject to investigation.

Twa-ha returned to his father-in-laws house in Khamar Mour Master Para area adjacent to Rangpur Meteorological Office this noon from where police brought him to the DB office around 3:30 pm.

Earlier, Twa-ha with his two companions and driver had not been found since the night of June 10.

At around 4 pm on June 10 last, Abu Twa-ha along with his two companions and driver left for Dhaka in a rented car from Rangpur.

The last time he spoke on his mobile phone at night, he told his mother that he was going to Savar.

Then at 2:36 am on June 11, Adnan spoke to his first wife Habiba Noor on his mobile phone. He told his wife that he was going to Savar. Since then, his phone was switched off and he could not be reached.

After searching all possible places, Twa-ha’s mother Azeda Begum could not find him and filed a general diary in the afternoon of June 11 with Kotwali police station of RpMP.

Abu Maruf Hossain said, “We started the investigation on the basis of the GD filed with Kotwali police station. We found Twa-ha today. At one stage of interrogating him, we also found his two companions and the driver.”
