None has right to disrupt public life by building unplanned structures: Tajul

DHAKA, June 17, 2021 (BSS) – Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam today said nobody has the right to disrupt public life and deprive people of civic services by building unplanned infrastructures in cities.

“It (setting up unplanned structures) will not be allowed anymore,” he said while visiting a road widening work initiated voluntarily by locals of Ward No. 16 of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

Tajul said the major cities of the country, including Dhaka, have experienced unplanned urbanisation due to construction of structures built by grabbing land.

“Without ensuring adequate roads, open space, drainage system, own septic tanks and other civic services, no other infrastructure will be allowed to be built,” he said.

“There is no problem to build high-rise buildings in the capital. I am not against it. But civic amenities must be ensured,” the minister said.

He said the high-rise buildings will not be approved if the building owners cannot ensure civic services and logistical support, including playgrounds, hospitals, schools and colleges.

Works continue to rescue the city canals from grabbers and build walkways on both sides of the canals aiming to build a green and beautiful city, Tajul said, adding that the canals would be built in a more beautiful way.

He said by causing harm to environment, no development becomes sustainable.

DNCC mayor Atiqul Islam, State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder and councilors and senior officials of the city corporation were present.
