RAJSHAHI, June 17, 2021 (BSS) – Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has launched oxygen services with the noble view of providing oxygen among the patients suffering from Covid-19 free of cost.

“We have started the endeavor with 100 cylinders in the preliminary stage and the figure will be increased to 150 as soon as possible,” said RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, while launching the noble programme at his office premises today.

He said the rate of infection was getting higher every day as the Delta variant, also known as the Indian variant, of the coronavirus has affected the city.

He added that the virus has spread to different areas of the city.

Mayor Liton said there is scarcity of oxygen due to infrastructural obstacles in hospitals. Besides, many people need oxygen in dwelling houses but they cannot afford it.

Instead of only Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, there is no central oxygen supply in other hospitals and clinics in the city.

Taking all the limitation issues into active consideration the city corporation took the initiative, he added.

“We will supply oxygen cylinders to the doorstep of the patient suffering from breathing constraint and free of cost voluntarily on an emergency basis as soon as he or she will contact RCC’s Hotline, Number 01758-901903,” he added.

On the occasion, Liton handed over 40 cylinders to Rajshahi Civil Surgeon Dr Quiume Talukder for the patients of Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon and Natore districts.

He also distributed 30 other cylinders for the 30 RCC’s Ward offices.

RCC Panel Mayors Shariful Islam and Rajab Ali, Ward Councilors Abdul Hamid Sarker and Muhammad Nuruzzaman, Chief Executive Officer Dr Sharif Uddin, Secretary Moshiur Rahman and Chief Health Officer Dr AFM Anjuman Ara Begum were present there.
