11 more die of Covid-19, 645 test positive afresh in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, June 17, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 645 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all eight districts of the division on Wednesday, climbing the number of infections to 45,071.

With 11 more fatalities from the disease were reported afresh on the day, death toll reached 698, including 331 in Bogura and 114 in Rajshahi with 68 in its city, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

The new daily infection figure shows a significant declining trend compared to the previous day’s figure of 813, said the health department sources.

“Among the infected people, 34,547 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 177 new recoveries found on Monday,” said Dr Talukder, adding that a total of 4,542 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals here.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 10,097 were kept in isolation units of different hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 7,864 have by now been released.

On the other hand, 428 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 107 others were released from isolation during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 334 were detected in Rajshahi, including 251 in its city, followed by 72 in Joypurhat, 66 in Natore, 48 in Chapainawabganj, 42 in Bogura, 34 in Naogaon, 31 in Sirajganj and 18 in Pabna districts.

With the new detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 13,298 in Rajshahi, including 10,806 in its city, 3,354 in Chapainawabganj, 3,229 in Naogaon, 2,512 in Natore, 2,586 in Joypurhat, 12,696 in Bogura, 3,945 in Sirajganj and 3,451 in Pabna.

A total of 77,850 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 73,085 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period.

Meanwhile, a total of 4,10,912 people received second doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the city and eight districts of Rajshahi division since the nationwide second dose vaccination began on April 8 last.

Of them, 10 people including 6 females took the second jabs in Bogura district of the division on Tuesday last, Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder told BSS.
