15 more die of Covid-19, 813 test positive in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, June 16, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 813 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all eight districts of the division on Tuesday, climbing the number of infections to 44,426.

Death toll from the disease reached 687, including 331 in Bogura and 114 in Rajshahi with 68 in its city, while 15 more fatalities were reported afresh on the day, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

The new daily infection figure shows a significant rising trend compared to the previous day’s figure of 712, said the health department sources.

“Among the infected people, 34,370 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 412 new recoveries found on Monday,” said Dr Talukder, adding that a total of 4,505 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals here.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 9,950 were kept in isolation units of different hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 7,823 have by now been released.

On the other hand, 451 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 125 others were released from isolation during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 343 were detected in Rajshahi, including 265 in its city, followed by 125 in Naogaon, 120 in Natore, 66 in Joypurhat, 56 in Chapainawabganj, 41 in Bogura, 35 in Pabna, and 27 in Sirajganj districts.

With the new detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 12,964 in Rajshahi, including 10,555 in its city, 3,306 in Chapainawabganj, 3,195 in Naogaon, 2,446 in Natore, 2,514 in Joypurhat, 12,654 in Bogura, 3,914 in Sirajganj and 3,433 in Pabna.

A total of 77,422 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 72,978 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period.

Meanwhile, a total of 4,10,912 people received second doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the city and eight districts of Rajshahi division since the nationwide second dose vaccination began on April 8 last.

Of them, 10 people including 6 females took the second jabs in Bogura district of the division on Tuesday, Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Divisional Director of Health services, told BSS.
