Covid-19 infection rate again crosses 30pc mark in Rangpur

RANGPUR, June 16, 2021 (BSS) – The coronavirus (Covid-19) infection rate again crossed the 30 percent mark on Tuesday in Rangpur division where the infection and casualty rates are harshly rising in recent weeks.

Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases rapidly climbed to 20,741 in the division as 185 more patients, the highest number in recent months, were reported after testing 613 samples at the infection rate of 30.18 percent on Tuesday.

“The Covid-19 infection rate climbed to 32.03 percent on June 8 last amid speedily rising infection rate in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui said.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 30.77 percent on Monday, 29.02 percent on Sunday, 27.50 percent on Saturday, 23.98 percent on Friday, 26.04 percent on Thursday and 31.25 percent on Wednesday last in the division.

The daily infection rate crossed the 10 percent mark on March 24 last for the first time since December 26 last year in the division after remaining below the five percent mark for over a month previously and again crossed the 10 percent mark on May 8 last.

“The district-wise break-up of total 20,741 patients stands at 5,287 in Rangpur, 861 in Panchagarh, 1,632 in Nilphamari, 1,216 in Lalmonirhat, 1,362 in Kurigram, 2,110 in Thakurgaon, 6,443 in Dinajpur and 1,830 in Gaibandha,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,40.237 collected samples were tested till Tuesday, and of them, 20,741 were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.79 percent.

Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said the Covid-19 infection related death toll reached 442 as three more patient died in Dinajpur and Lalmonirhat on Tuesday in Rangpur division.

The district-wise break-up of the total fatalities now stands at 103 in Rangpur, 160 in Dinajpur, 55 in Thakurgaon, 38 in Nilphamari, 24 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 23 in Gaibandha and 19 in Lalmonirhat.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.13 percent,” Dr Islam said.
Meanwhile, the total number of healed patients rose to 18,523 with recovery of 66 more infected patients on Tuesday in the division where the average recovery rate stands at 89.31 percent.

“Among the 18,523 recovered patients, 4,836 of Rangpur, 819 of Panchagarh, 1,542 of Nilphamari, 1,076 of Lalmonirhat, 1,176 of Kurigram, 1,624 of Thakurgaon, 5,695 of Dinajpur and 1,755 of Gaibandha districts in the division,” he said.

Of the total 20,741 infected patients, 140 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 22 critical patients at ICU beds and six at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 18,523 patients and 442 deaths while 1,717 remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine remained steady at 5,96,943 since April 26 last, and of them, 3,87,940 got the second dose of the jab till Tuesday in the division,” Dr Islam added.
Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu suggested everyone to really abide by the health directives to contain the rapidly rising Covid-19 infection rate.
