Abahani, Prime Bank confirm DPL Super League

DHAKA, June 14, 2021 (BSS) — Defending champions Abahani Limited and Prime Bank Cricket Club became the first two teams to confirm the super league of the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL) after winning their respective matches today.

Both Prime Bank and Abahani so far collected 14 points from nine matches, but the former is in top spot thanks to better run rate.

The other teams that won their respective matches at different venues across the city today were Prime Doleshwar, Shinepukur Cricket Club and Gazi Group Cricketers.

Abahani vs Sheikh Jamal

Following his epic 92 not out in the previous match, Munim Shahriar blasted a 40 ball-74 against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi to steer defending champions Abahani to a comprehensive 49-run victory at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

A day before, the 23-year old Munim was the architect of Abahani’s victory against Prime Bank, hammering a 50 ball-92 not out. He started from where he left yesterday and struck nine fours and three sixes in his another brisk knock of 74 to guide Abahani to a hefty 181-4.

Sheik Jamal’s revised target was set 147 in 13 overs after a spell of shower but they never came close to pose a threat to mighty Abahani. They were finally restricted to 98-8.

Munim’s fellow opener Naim Sheikh failed to deliver being out on 10 but he got ably support from Nazmul Hossain Shanto. They paved the platform for a big total, adding 88 off 53 for the second wicket stand.

Munim though was dismissed, Shanto was not out on 65 off 42, clobbering six fours and two sixes. Mosaddek Hossain came up with a lusty blow towards the death with 26 not out off 15, striking one four and two sixes.

Abahani bowlers bowled in a disciplined manner with pacer Mehedi Hasan Rana leading the charge. He scythed down Sheikh Jamal club with 3-16 and was complemented by Arafat Sunny who snapped up 2-16.

Prime Bank vs Old DOHS

Prime Bank Cricket Club comfortably recorded a 22-run win over Old DOHS at BKSP-3 ground.

Opener Rony Talukdar led the charge with 39 ball-54, hitting five fours and three sixes. Thanks to Rony’s knock, Prime Bank compiled 147-7 and later dismissed Old DOHS for 125 runs in 20 overs.

Rony’s fellow opener and Bangladesh’s ODI captain Tamim Iqbal scored 25 but it came off 28 balls, with the strike rate of just 89. Skipper Anamul Haque Bijoy who made 15 also failed to score at brisk pace. However Rony’s fluent knock ensured that Prime Bank would score a decent total to give their bowlers something to defend.

Prime Bank’s left arm pacer Shoriful Islam scalped 3-23 to rip through Old DOHS. He was ably supported by Monir Hossain, Nahidul Islam and Alok Kapali who all picked up two wickets apiece.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy was the highest scorer for DOHS with 26 and Rayan Rahman made run-a-ball-21.

Gazi Group vs Partex

Mahedi Hasan came up with a terrific all-round performance as Gazi Group Cricketers crushed Partex Sporting Club by nine wickets in a rain-curtailed match at BKSP-3 ground.

Being sent to bat first, Partex were held back to paltry 109-7 but a spell of showers reduced the game as Gazi Group got a revised target of 47 in eight overs.

Mahedi Hasan’s 13 ball-33 studded with one four and four sixes made it cake-walk for Gazi Group, sailing them home with 47-1 in 5.3 overs. Mahedi was the only batsman to be out. Soumya Sarkar was not out on 11.

Earlier Mahedi bagged 1-10 in two overs in bowling to play a key role. However Mohiuddin Tareq was the highest wicket-taker for Gazi Group with 3-36.

Hasanuzzaman was the top-scorer for Partex with 26 while Joyraz Sheikh scored 24. The defeat was Partex’s ninth in a row in the league while it was Gazi Group’s sixth victory in nine matches.

Prime Doleshwar vs Legends of Rupganj

Pacer Kamrul Islam Rabbi claimed 3-15 in a gem of pace bowling as Prime Doleshwar coasted to a 14-run victory over Legends of Rupganj in a low-scoring affair at BKSP-4 ground.

Being sent to bat first, Doleshwar were shot out for only 118, which raised a prospect of their defeat but Kamrul Rabbi came up with sterling effort to help the side restrict Rupganj for 104-8.

Shafiqul Islam took 2-6 to give Kamrul Rabbi the ably support and Rupganj could never pose a threat to overhaul the low total. Al-Amin was the highest scorer for Rupganj with 30 while Azmir Ahmed made 23.

Earlier Fazle Mahmud 29 helped Dloeshwar to propel past 100 when they were under threat of being all out below 100. No batsman could cross the 20-run mark apart from Fazle.

Shinepukur vs Khelaghar

Shinepukur Cricket Club cruises Khelaghar Samaj Kallayan Samity past by 15 runs through DLS system at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Being sent to bat first, Shinepukur posted 154-6, with Sajjdul Haque scoring the highest 48 and skipper Towhid Hridoy contributing 44. Together they shared 80-run for the third wicket stand to pave the platform of the victory, even though Khelaghar pacer Syed Khaled Ahmed, bowled superbly to take 3-20.

Khelaghar’s revised target was set 126 in 16 overs after a spell of showers halted the game. They however were able to score 110-7 to concede the defeat. Opener Sadikur Rahman top-scored with 31.

Mohammedan vs Brothers

The match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Brothers Union was called off due to wet outfield at BKSP-4 ground.

Both of the teams sharepoint because of the abandonment of the game. BKSP-4 ground curator Nuruzzaman Noyon said they didn’t get adequate time to dry up the ground after a spell of showers following the innings of Mohammedan.

The Motijhil outfit scored 143-9 after opting to bat first. Opener Abdul Mazid was the top-scorer with 35.
