Deal inked for capital dredging of Payra port

DHAKA, June 13, 2021 (BSS)- ‘Capital and Maintenance Dredging Agreement’ of Rabnabad Channel of Payra Port was signed at a cityHotel here today.

Payra Port Authority Chairman Commodore Humayun Kallol and Belgium-based company Jan De Nul Project Director Jan Moenssigned the contract on behalf of their respective sides, a handout said.

Planning Minister MA Mannan and State minister for shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury were also present on the occasion.

The dredging project will cost Taka 4,950 crore.

Earlier in 2019, the cost of this dredging project was estimated at Tk 10,559 crore under an agreement with the same company under public-private partnership (PPP).

As a result of the new modified contract, this new agreement will save Tk 5,609 crore.

Capital dredging of the channel will create a 75 km long, 100-125 meter wide and 10.5 meter deep channel between sea and the port.

It will also create the capacity to load 40,000 tons of ships in the Payra port.
