Eid cattle markets to be set up at designated places following health rules: Tajul

DHAKA, June 13, 2021 (BSS) – Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives M Tajul Islam today said sacrificial animal markets would be set up at the places designated by the city corporations, municipalities, upazila and union parishads during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha,.

“This year, the cattle markets would be set up with utmost caution at the sites designated by the city corporations, municipalities and upazila and union parishads, following the proper hygiene rules,” he said.

He said this at an inter-ministerial virtual meeting on Eid-ul-Azha 2021 organized by the local government department, said a press release.

“The places of slaughtering animals will be fixed as per the decision of proper authority,” he said.

“The country has been suffering due to the extensive spread of delta variants of the coronavirus as India is our neighbouring country,” he said, adding, “On the occasion of Eid, many people and animals come to the country from India through legal and illegal routes.”

He called upon the local representatives in their respective areas to take precautionary measures to prevent illegal entry of people and animals from India under any circumstances.

“The installation of animal markets on any type of roads, including highways and railways, must be stopped,” Tajul said.

Mentioning that steps should be taken to remove the waste as soon as possible after the sacrifice, he said, all the people’s representatives of the upazila and union parishads and the mayors of municipalities and the city corporations will remove the waste on their own initiative.

The meeting was attended by mayors of all city corporations, including Dhaka North and South City Corporations, and senior secretaries of local government departments, secretaries of concerned ministries and departments including health, information and broadcasting and representatives of various departments.
