6 die, 668 more test positive for Covid-19 in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, June 13, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 668 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all eight districts of the division on Saturday, climbing the number of infections to 42,255.

Death toll from the disease reaches 646, including 325 in Bogura and 107 in Rajshahi with 65 in its city, while six more fatalities were reported afresh on the day, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

The new daily infection figure shows an almost double compared to the previous day’s figure of 345, said the health department sources.

“Among the infected people, 33,656 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 241 new recoveries found on Saturday,” said Dr Talukder, adding that a total of 4,343 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals here.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 9,514 were kept in isolation units of different hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 7,644 have by now been released.

On the other hand, 451 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 123 others were released from isolation during the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 368 were detected in Rajshahi, including 287 in its city, followed by 66 in Natore, 57 in Chapainawabganj and Joypurhat each, 48 in Naogaon, 29 in Pabna, 23 in Bogura and 20 in Sirajganj districts.

With the new detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 11,960 in Rajshahi, including 9,765 in its city, 3,166 in Chapainawabganj, 2,891 in Naogaon, 2,195 in Natore, 2,319 in Joypurhat, 12,537 in Bogura, 3,857 in Sirajganj and 3,330 in Pabna.

A total of 76,258 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 72,564 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period.

Meanwhile, a total of 4,10,363 people received second doses of Covid-19 vaccines in the city and eight districts of Rajshahi division since the nationwide second dose vaccination began on April 8 last.

Of them, 10 people including five females took the second jabs in Bogura district of the division on Saturday, Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder told BSS today.
