4 more die, Covid-19 related deaths reach 433 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 13, 2021 (BSS) – The coronavirus (Covid-19) infection-related death toll reached 433 as four more infected patients died during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today in the division.

Health officials said the four new deaths were reported from Rangpur, Nilphamari, Dinajpur and Thakurgaon districts in the division where the infection and casualty rates are rising and recovery rate is declining in recent weeks.

“Some 123 patients died from April 10 to June 12, the highest number of deaths in 62 days since the outbreak of the pandemic beginning in the division,” said Focal Person of the COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

The district-wise break-up of the 433 fatalities now stands at 103 in Rangpur, 154 in Dinajpur, 53 in Thakurgaon, 38 in Nilphamari, 24 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 23 in Gaibandha and 18 in Lalmonirhat.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.14 percent,” Dr Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said the number of Covid-19 cases hastily rose to 20,240 in the division as 162 more patients were reported after testing 589 samples at the infection rate of 27.50 percent on Saturday.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 23.98 percent on Friday, 26.04 percent on Thursday, 31.25 percent on Wednesday, 32.03 percent on Tuesday and 28.79 percent on Monday last in the division.

“The district-wise break-up of the total 20,240 patients currently stands at 5,227 in Rangpur, 856 in Panchagarh, 1,615 in Nilphamari, 1,179 in Lalmonirhat, 1,317 in Kurigram, 1,964 in Thakurgaon, 6,271 in Dinajpur and 1,811 in Gaibandha,” he said.

A total of 1,38,606 collected samples of all eight districts in the division were tested till Saturday, and of them, 20,240 people were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.60 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed patients rose to 18,325 with the recovery of 55 more infected patients on Saturday in the division where the average recovery rate stands at 90.54 percent.

“The average recovery rate of Covid-19 infected patients was 97.55 percent three months ago on March 9 last in the division where the same dropped by 7.01 percent to 90.54 percent during the last three months,” Dr Islam said.

The 18,325 recovered patients include 4,759 of Rangpur, 819 Panchagarh, 1,539 of Nilphamari, 1,061 of Lalmonirhat, 1,156 of Kurigram, 1,612 of Thakurgaon, 5,645 of Dinajpur and 1,734 of Gaibandha districts.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine remained steady at 5,96,943 since April 26 last, and among them, 3,87,740 got the second dose of the jab till Saturday in the division,” Dr Islam added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged everyone to abide by the health directives for containing the rapidly rising Covid-19 infection rate.
