DHAKA, June 12, 2021 (BSS) – The spiritual hub of Maizbhandar has launched a nationwide plantation campaign aiming to plant 10,00,000 saplings in next one year as part of its spiritual commitment to preserve nature.

The hub’s incumbent leader Syed Saifuddin Ahmed Maizbhandari inaugurated the campaign planting a sapling at Maizbhandar Manzil at the port city of Chattogram, saying Prophet Muhammmad (PBUH) himself promoted plantation campaign while it was a spiritual obligation of all to preserve nature.

Hazrat Sayed Mainuddin Ahmed Maizbhandari Trust, a forum of the spiritual hub named after a great Sufi saint in the region, in a statement said it planned to plant 500,000 saplings alone during the rainy season and aimed to plant another 500,000 throughout the year across the country.

“World leaders must ensure US$100 billion Climate Fund every year,” Saifuddin said opening the campaign adding that developed countries promised to mobilise a fund of US$100 billion every year from 2020 in the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement but their commitment remained unfulfilled.

He noted that the excessive green house gas (GHG) emissions due to luxurious consumption patterns in developed countries continued to endanger the existence of planet earth and Bangladesh in particular while the plantation of trees could negate to some extent the damage.

Saifuddin appreciated the climate diplomacy being spearheaded by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government alongside its the country’s commitment to nature, saying though Bangladesh was responsible for emitting only 0.35% GHG, it took initiative of reducing 15% emission by 2030.
