Zakir inaugurates naval ambulance service on Brahmaputra in Kurigram

RANGPUR, June 11, 2021 (BSS) – Naval ambulance service has been launched on the Brahmaputra river fulfilling the long-cherished hope of common people of Roumari and Rajibpur upazilas to easily reach Kurigram district town for health services.

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain inaugurated the naval ambulance service in a function held on Thursday at Roumari River Ghat in Roumari upazila of Kurigram at the initiative of Popular General (PG) Hospital, Kurigram.

Former Additional Secretary Md Badrul Hasan Babul, Deputy Civil Surgeon of Kurigram Dr Borhan Uddin, Roumari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Al Imran, Upazila Chairman Sheikh Abdullah and Upazila Awami League General Secretary Rezaul Islam Minu were present.

On the occasion, former Additional Secretary and the Naval Ambulance Service Entrepreneur Badrul Hasan Babul said Roumari and Rajibpur upazilas of Kurigram have been separated by the river Brahmaputra for ages.

“For treatment purposes, people of the two upazilas have to go to Kurigram district headquarters by the river with immense difficulty,” he said.

He said launching of the naval ambulance service would help the critical and dying patients of the two upazilas to reach to the hospitals in Kurigram district town avoiding sufferings during the difficult times of Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic

“This naval ambulance has all modern medicare facilities for first aid including oxygen cylinder and nebulizer,” Babul added.

State Minister Zakir Hossain said the people of Roumari and Rajibpur upazilas, isolated by the Brahmaputra, have been suffering for a long time on their way to and from Kurigram General Hospital in Kurigram district town.

“I firmly hope that the naval ambulance would relieve people of Roumari and Rajibpur upazilas from the sufferings they experienced for decades in reaching Kurigram district town to avail health services,” he said.

The State Minister sincerely thanked Badrul Hasan Babul, the initiator of the naval ambulance service, for launching the naval ambulance service on the river Brahmaputra to relieve people of the two upazilas from sufferings.
