WFP ED lauds development activities of Bangladesh

DHAKA, June 10, 2021 (BSS)- Executive Director (ED) of the World Food Programme (WFP) David Beasley has highly appreciated Bangladesh’s development activities as the country had achieved outstanding achievements in various fields over the past decade.

The WFP ED expressed his appreciation for Bangladesh when its Ambassador to Italy Shameem Ahsan presented his letter of credence to him at the WFP headquarters in Rome Tuesday as Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the WFP, a press release said here today.

Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the WFP Shameem Ahsan described the WFP’s activities in Bangladesh as multidimensional, long-lasting and highly effective, and briefed the Executive Director on the government’s financial support and direct involvement in the ‘School Feeding Program’ and ‘Fortified Rice’.

He commended the WFP for its unprecedented support and important role in Rohingya issue and sought the assistance of the WFP Executive Board in ensuring safe, secure and dignified repatriation of the Rohingya people to their own land.

The Ambassador and Permanent Representative thanked the WFP Executive Board for taking various initiatives, including inspection to the Cox’s Bazar Rohingya Camps in 2019 and sharing their experiences with the Board members.
