Abahani, Mohammedan face off in high voltage clash tomorrow
DHAKA, June 10, 2021 (BSS)—The ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL) will see it first high voltage clash when two old foes Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club faced off in a crucial game of the league tomorrow at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
The match will start at 1.30 PM.
Even though the emotions don’t run high like the 80s, 90s or early 2000s and the nation doesn’t divide over the clash of two traditional rivals, the magnitude of the match is still lofty.
Tomorrow’s match is particularly important for Mohammedan who are at sixth position at the point table after losing three straight matches. The Motijhil outfit started the league with three straight wins and looked well composed as a team, the latest three defeats in a row left them in a tricky situation.
Those also cracked open many loopholes of the team that they should plug in a bid to keep an informed team like Abahani at bay.
Their main problem is their star allrounder and captain Shakib Al Hasan’s patchy form with the willow. Even though Shakib shined well with bowling, his batting form left the middle order vulnerable.
Mohammedan fans will expect Shakib to get back form in the most important clash where no team wants to taste a defeat.
Ahead of the clash against the archrivals, Abahani was boosted up by the return to the top of the point table. Abahani won the first three matches in a row before experiencing an upset defeat to Khelaghar Samaj Kallayan Samity. That cost them the top spot but then they won two straight matches to regain the top spot.
Considering the form and the past record that saw them not losing to Mohammedan in the last seven years would keep them as absolute favourites in tomorrow’s match but again in the clash of two old foes, nothing is guaranteed.
