Covid-19 cases, related deaths increasing in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 10, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (Covid-19) cases and related deaths alongside the daily infection rate continues increasing rapidly across Rangpur division in recent weeks.

Health officials said 130 new Covid-19 cases were reported and four more infected patients died during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today in the division.

“The number of Covid-19 cases climbed to 19,853 as 130 more patients were reported after testing 416 samples at the infection rate of 31.25 percent on Wednesday,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 32.03 percent on Tuesday, 28.79 percent on Monday, 23.98 percent on Sunday, 23.66 percent on Saturday against 15.57 percent on Friday last in the division.

The district-wise break up of 19,853 patients stands at 5,175 in Rangpur, 848 in Panchagarh, 1,605 in Nilphamari, 1,152 in Lalmonirhat, 1,282 in Kurigram, 1,851 in Thakurgaon, 6,144 in Dinajpur and 1,796 in Gaibandha of the division.

Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam said four more Covid-19 infected people died in Rangpur, Lalmonirhat and Dinajpur on Wednesday raising the related death toll to 423 in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 423 fatalities stands at 102 in Rangpur, 153 in Dinajpur, 46 in Thakurgaon, 37 in Nilphamari, 24 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 23 in Gaibandha and 18 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

“The average casualty rate presently stands at 2.13 percent, which is the highest average fatality rate since the beginning of pandemic in the division,” Dr Islam said.
Since the beginning, a total of 1,36,885 collected samples of the division were tested till Wednesday, and of them, 19,853 people were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.50 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered Covid-19 patients rose to 18,206 with the healing of 53 more infected people on Wednesday at the average recovery rate of 91.70 percent in the division.

“The 18,206 recovered patients include 4,740 of Rangpur, 819 Panchagarh, 1,530 of Nilphamari, 1,660 of Lalmonirhat, 1,133 of Kurigram, 1,589 of Thakurgaon, 5,601 of Dinajpur and 1,734 of Gaibandha districts,” Dr Islam said.

Among the 19,853 infected patients, 124 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 19 at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds, after recovery of 18,206 people and 423 deaths while 1,163 are remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine remained steady at 5,96,943 since April 26 last, and among them, 3,87,520 got the second dose of the jab till Wednesday in the division,” Dr Islam added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu expressed concern over the increasing Covid-19 infection rate and related deaths in the division in recent weeks.

He put maximum emphasis on strictly abiding by the health directives and hygiene rules and wearing masks while remaining outside as the Covid-19 infection rate is rising in the division.
