RpMP unveils book on memoirs of War of Liberation

RANGPUR, June 9, 2021 (BSS) – A book titled “Memoirs of the War of Liberation” compiled and published by Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) was unveiled at its conference room in the metropolis today.

As per direction of RpMP Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, the compiled book was published today marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of independence.

Presided over by RpMP Commissioner, Divisional Commissioner Abdul Wahhab Bhuiyan, Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya, Superintendent of Police for Rangpur Biplob Kumar Sarkar, former Rangpur district unit Commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad Mosaddek Hossain Bablu and police freedom fighters attended the occasion.

In a message given in the book, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed said, “I am very happy to know that RpMP has taken the initiative to publish a book titled’ Memoirs of the War Liberation’ on the memory and history of the Liberation War of the heroic police freedom fighters living in Rangpur metropolis.”

“It is a commendable and groundbreaking step to send videos of speeches of police freedom fighters to the Police Liberation War Museum for preservation to further enrich the museum and disseminate our glorious history to the next generations,” he wrote.

The initiative to publish a book titled ‘Memoirs of the War of Liberation’ on the occasion of the glorious Mujib birth centenary and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence is a very timely step.

“I firmly believe that the book will inspire the next generations in the spirit of the Great War of Liberation and patriotism to dedicate them to build the Sonar Bangla as dreamt of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” the message said.

On the occasion, the RpMP Chief said numerous members of Bangladesh Police have been martyred in the War of Liberation, whose sacrifices are unknown to many people of the country.

Feeling the need to preserve memories of the War of Liberation for the next generations, RpMP took an initiative to preserve the memoirs and history of the heroic police freedom fighters living in Rangpur metropolis.

“After compiling written memoirs and video speeches of 22 police freedom fighters, we published the book to preserve the heroic history and contributions of police members in the struggles for freedom, including the War of Liberation,” he said.

The collected information and videos of police freedom fighters of Rangpur metropolis will be sent to the Bangladesh Police Liberation War Museum later for the purpose of preservation in the form of documents.

The historical role and time-honored contribution of Bangladesh Police, who created the first armed resistance to the Pakistani occupation forces in the War of Independence, is well known.

Recognition of the unique achievements of the fearless heroic police freedom fighters in the Great War of Liberation is the receipt of the ‘Independence Medal’ of the Bangladesh Police in 2011.

“The participation of the police force in the War of Liberation since the crackdown on black night of March 25 in 1971 is a history of heroism. We are indebted to the heroic police freedom fighters,” the RpMP Commissioner added.
