Covid-19 infection rate crosses 32pc in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 9, 2021 (BSS) – The daily coronavirus (Covid-19) infection rate hastily crossed the 32 percent mark on Tuesday in Rangpur division where the infection and casualty rates are harshly rising in recent days.

“The number of Covid-19 cases quickly reached 19,723 as 131 more people were reported positive after testing 409 samples at the infection rate of 32.03 percent on Tuesday,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 28.79 percent on Monday, 23.98 percent on Sunday and 23.66 percent on Saturday against 15.57 percent on Friday, 17.74 percent on Thursday and 20 percent on Wednesday last in the division.

“The district-wise break-up of 19,723 patients stands at 5,156 in Rangpur, 847 in Panchagarh, 1,603 in Nilphamari, 1,141 in Lalmonirhat, 1,272 in Kurigram, 1,812 in Thakurgaon, 6,101 in Dinajpur and 1,791 in Gaibandha,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,36,469 collected samples were tested till Tuesday, and of them, 19,723 were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.45 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed patients rose to 18,153 with recovery of 60 more infected patients on Tuesday in the division where the average recovery rate stands at 92.35 percent.

“The average recovery rate of Covid-19 infected patients was 97.55 percent three months ago on March 9 last in the division where the same dropped by 5.20 percent during the period,” Dr Siddiqui said.

Among the 18,153 recovered patients, 4,722 of Rangpur, 819 of Panchagarh, 1,530 of Nilphamari, 1,057 of Lalmonirhat, 1,123 of Kurigram, 1,585 of Thakurgaon, 5,583 of Dinajpur and 1,734 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of Covid-19 related deaths rose to 419 as three more deaths were reported from Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Thakurgaon districts in the division on Tuesday.

The district-wise break-up of the total fatalities now stands at 101 in Rangpur, 152 in Dinajpur, 46 in Thakurgaon, 37 in Nilphamari, 24 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 23 in Gaibandha and 16 in Lalmonirhat.

“The average casualty rate presently stands at 2.12 percent,” he said.

Among the 19,723 infected patients, 108 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 20 critical patients at ICU beds and four at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 18,153 patients and 419 deaths while 1,154 remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine remained steady at 5,96,943 since April 26 last, and among them, 3,87,420 got the second dose of the jab till Tuesday in the division,” Dr Ali said.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu stressed on abiding by the health directives to contain the quickly rising Covid-19 infection rate in the division.
