JS body for removing signboards from Sangsad Bhaban areas

DHAKA, June 8, 2021 (BSS) – The Parliamentary Committee of the Eleventh Jatiya Sangsad today asked the city corporation authorities to remove all the signboards and banners in the vicinity of the parliament complex and Manik Mia Avenue’s MP Hostel here within a week.

Held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, the committee in its 7th meeting instructed the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Dhaka North and South City Corporations to determine the boundaries of the parliamentary complex and its adjoining areas to complete the development and service works.

Chaired by the committee chairman and Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury Liton, the meeting also suggested the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to make necessary arrangements and conduct regular monitoring to ensure that no shops could be set up on Manik Mia Avenue premises.

The meeting also recommended taking necessary steps to evict the individuals living illegally at different dormitories in the MP building areas.

The JS committee also suggested the authorities concerned to install Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and PBx telephone connections in the required places of the Parliament House and the Member of Parliament (MP) building as soon as possible.

Reviewing the progress of implementation of the 6th meeting’s decisions, the meeting was told to redesign the car stickers already supplied by the Parliament Secretariat.

The committee also reached a consensus that the Parliament Members’ Club would run both the canteen of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar MP’s building and the canteen (super shop) at Manik Mia Avenue’s 6 No MPs hostel.

Committee members : AB Tajul Islam, Iqbalur Rahim, Fazle Hossain Badsha, Kazi Firoz Rashid, Mahbub Ara Begum Gini, Monzur Hossain, Ashek Ullah Rafiq, Shawkat Hachanur Rahman (Rimon), Md Harunur Rashid, Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, convener of MP Building Management Committee Md Saifuzzaman, joint-convener Nahid Ezhar Khan and management committee’s joint convener Nargis Rahman were also present there.

The committee directed the officials of the respective department to regularly monitor the quality of work being done by the Ministry of Housing and Public Works at NAM building and complete the work within the stipulated time.

Senior officials of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Chief Engineer, Department of Housing and Public Works, Chief Engineer, Department of Architecture and senior officials of Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka WASA, Titas and DMP also attended the meeting.
