77 more test positive for Covid-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 8, 2021 (BSS) – Seventy-seven more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (Covid-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues remaining above the 20 percent mark during the last three days.

“The 77 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples at two Covid-19 Laboratories in the division at the infection rate of 20.48 percent today,” Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 28.79 percent on Monday, 23.98 percent on Sunday and 23.66 percent on Saturday against 15.57 percent on Friday, 17.74 percent on Thursday and 20 percent on Wednesday last in the division.

Among the 77 new patients diagnosed today, 40 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 40 new patients include 23 from Rangpur, 13 from Lalmonirhat, two from Nilphamari and one each from Dinajpur and Gaibandha districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS at 6:50 pm.

On the other hand, 37 other new infected patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 37 newly infected Covid-19 patients include 31 from Dinajpur, two from Thakurgaon, three from Panchagarh and one from Nilphamari districts,” said Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain.

Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of Covid-19 patients climbed to 19,669 as 77 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of 19,669 patients stands at 5,145 in Rangpur, 847 in Panchagarh, 1,599 in Nilphamari, 1,138 in Lalmonirhat, 1,267 in Kurigram, 1,784 in Thakurgaon, 6,100 in Dinajpur and 1,789 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
