Budget for livelihood protection and economic recovery: BPGMEA

DHAKA,June 7, 2021 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Plastics Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA) has termed the proposed national budget for FY 22 as a budget for livelihood protection and economic recovery.

The organization expressed its views on the proposed budget at a press conference held at the BPGMEA office in the capital’s Paltan today.

BPGMEA President Samim Ahmed said, “The number of poor people in the country has increased due to global pandemic Covid-19. Millions of people have become unemployed.”

Therefore, in the budget, the government has given importance to address Covid-19, protect livelihoods and recover economic for people of strata of life.

He further said that in the budget, the finance minister has taken various important and landmark decisions in the financial sector.

He thinks that if these initiatives are implemented, the country will go one step further.

Besides, BPGMEA leaders have put forward a number of proposals, including a VAT exemption on plastic crockery items and withdrawal of 15 percent VAT on plastic toys.

Among others, former presidents ASM Kamal Uddin and Ferdous Waheed and senior vice president Giyas Uddin Ahmed and vice president KM Iqbal Hossain were present at the press conference.
