Mohakhali slum fire under control, probe body formed

DHAKA, June 7, 2021 (BSS) – After trying for around three hours, 18 units of fire services completely doused the Mohakhali Sat-tola slum fire at around 9:15am today.

Lima Khanum, duty officer at the fire service and civil defense headquarters, confirmed the matter to BSS saying that, “The fire started around 3:59am. There were no immediate reports of injuries. However, details about damage due to the blaze would be revealed after receiving the final report.”

Director General of Service and Civil Defense Brigadier General Mohammad Sajjad Hossain visited the spot after receiving the news of the fire.

Replying to the queries of the newsmen at the time, he said that the fire spread fast due to congestion and presence of flammable substances in the houses.

While asked about the cause of the fire, he said, “There are a lot of illegal gas and electricity connection lines here. We initially think that the fire started due to any one of these two reasons.”

Meanwhile, a five-member probe committee has been formed today by the Fire Service and Civil Defense to find out the exact reason behind the fire and damage caused by it.

The committee led by Nur Hasan Ahmed, Deputy Director (DD) of Fire Service and Civil Defense (Development) and comprising of Abul Bashar, Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) of Fire Service and Civil Defense, Mahmudul Hasan, Senior Station Officer at Tejgaon Fire Station, Abdul Khaleq, Ware House Inspector and Golam Mostafa, Ware House Inspector, has been asked to submit a report within the next 7 working days.
