Boro paddy, rice procurement drive begins in Narsingdi
NARSINGDI, June 7, 2021 (BSS) – The procurement drive of Boro paddy and rice has begun in all the six upazilas of the district this season.
According to district food office sources, the government has fixed a target to procure 4,901 tonnes of Boro paddy, 3,391 tonnes of boiled rice and 75 tonnes of sunned rice from the farmers through 41 purchasing centers of the upazilas in the current season.
Price of per kg paddy has been fixed at Tk 27, boiled rice Tk 40 and sunned rice Tk 39, the sources added.
To make the procurement drive a success, the field level agri-officials of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) are motivating the farmers to sell their paddy and rice in the local purchasing centers to help them get fair prices of their produce.
Mohammad Humayain Kabir, district controller of food, said the procurement drive began in the district on May 6 and in the meantime about 576 tonnes of paddy, 2,925 tonnes of boiled rice and 58 tonnes of sunned (Atap) rice have already been purchased from the farmers.
He hoped that the purchasing target might be achieved as the department is getting positive response from the farmers.
Necessary measures have also been taken to procure the paddy from the farmers so that they would get fair prices of their food grains, he said.
He added the procurement drive will continue up to August.
