53 jailed for drug dealing in three northern districts
RAJSHAHI, July 24, 2018 (BSS) – Three separate mobile courts on Monday
sentenced 53 persons to different jail terms on charges of taking drugs and
drug trading.
Earlier Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 58 alleged drug addicts
conducting four separate drives in Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj and Joypurhat
districts, said RAB officials familiar with the drives.
Later, the arrested were produced before the concerned mobile courts which
awarded different jail terms to 53 persons.
Two detained persons were also fined Taka 10,000 each by one of the
courts. Regular cases were lodged against three others.
RAB officials said the elite force during the drives also seized 90 yaba
tablets, 49 bottles of phensidyl, 1.322 grams of ganja, 851 ample drug-
injections, 2,500 liters of country-made liquor and some other drugs-taking
instruments.
Saiful Islam, assistant superintendent of police working with the RAB,
said different courts in the districts have sent more than 584 drug addicts
to jail in the last 23 days.
