Govt issues gazette revoking gallantry awards of 4 Bangabandhu killers

DHAKA, June 6, 2021 (BSS) – The Liberation War Affairs Minister today issued a gazette notification scraping the gallantry titles of four convicted and self-confessed killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members.

The self-confessed killers, who are currently on run after being convicted by the court, are: dismissed lieutenant colonel Shariful Haque Dalim (Bir Uttam, Gazette no 25), dismissed lieutenant colonel SHMHMB Nur Chowdhury (Bir Bikram, Gazette no 90), dismissed lieutenant AM Rashed Chowdhury (Bir Pratik, Gazette no 267) and dismissed nayek subedar Moslem Uddin Khan (Bir Pratik, Gazette no 329), said a press release here.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said the gazettes on gallantry award of the four self-confessed convicted killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu and other martyrs on August 15, 1975 have been canceled as it is shameful for the nation to have the heroic title of the Liberation War on them.

Earlier on February 9, the National Freedom Fighters Council (Jamuka) at its 72nd meeting recommended canceling the gallantry awards of the four killers.
