COVID-19 cases cross 54,000 mark in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, June 6, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases crossed the 54,000 mark in the district where the infection rate continues rising again in recent weeks.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases speedily raised to 54,032 as 72 more persons were reported Covid-19 positive after testing 746 samples with the daily infection rate of 9.65 percent on Sunday in the district.

The health experts of Chattogram urged city dwellers again and again to strictly follow health rules and use masks.

Among the newly detected patients, 38 are from Chattogram city and 34 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.

With one more death on Sunday, the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in Chattogram reached 626, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram, said.

Among the reported fatalities, 448 were the residents of the port city and the rest 179 were from different upazilas of the district.

Civil surgeon told BSS that among the total infected persons, 42,914 are the residents of the port city and the rest 11,119 are residents of different upazilas of the district.

“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus infection has reached 42,665 in the district with the recovery of 424 more patients on Sunday,” Dr Rabbi said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate stands at 79.42.

A total of 5,922 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
