BCB to consider if players keen for rest from Zimbabwe tour
DHAKA, June 6, 2021 (BSS) – A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selector made it confirm that they will consider if the regular cricketers of the Bangladesh national team wants rest from any format of cricket during the tour of Zimbabwe.
Bangladesh cricket team is scheduled to leave for Zimbabwe on June 29 to play a full series, consisting one Test, three ODIs and as many T20Is.
Selector Abdur Razzak said that if any of the regulars or seniors in the team is keen to skip any format or reluctant to tour, it will be considered.
“If anyone wants to rest from the tour, we will definitely think about it,” Razzak told the media.
“As far as I know, no one is yet to show their reluctance or skip any format. If someone is keen, we will have time to think,” he added.
Razzak thinks players shouldn’t be blamed if they want to skip any format or take rest from the tour as the life is not easier in the prolonged bio-bubble.
All of the Bangladesh cricketers including the national players are in bio-bubble now, created for the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL). The national players would have to enter into another bio-bubble for the Zimbabwe tour.
“The biggest challenge now is to stay in the bio-bubble. Think a little about those who are playing regularly in the national team – how long they are out of the home! It is really difficult to calculate. We just try to see the performance. But it should also be kept in mind that those who talk about cricket should take this into account,” he added.
“So it is natural that there is a thought about considering players to give rest if they want. Another issue is whether the board allows the family to stay together.” Razzak said.
However, Razzak doesn’t think that senior players should be rested because the opponent is Zimbabwe.
“Zimbabwe are not an easy opponent, specially when we’ll play against them at their own den. If we would have played the series on our own soil, I could think about resting the players. So in no way do I agree that seniors should be rested because the opponent is Zimbabwe.”
He said every series should be seen with equal importance.
“Every series is equally important to us, for every player,” he said. “Now if you play with Scotland it will be the same, if you play with Australia it will be the same. The reason is that if you win with Australia, you will not be given equal points for two matches. If you do one fifty, it will not be one hundred. The biggest thing is that all the players have to play but it is difficult. That’s why I say, every series is important. “
