BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury’s bail stayed

Dhaka, Jun 6, 2021 (BSS): The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has stayed the bail granted to BNP joint secretary general Lion Aslam Chowdhury in two sabotage cases.

Following the hearing of the petition filed by the state, the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain stayed the bail granted by the High Court till June 20 and has asked the state to make a leave to appeal within this period.

Attorney General AM Amin Uddin represented the state in the court. Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kajal stood in favor of Aslam Chowdhury.

On May 30, a virtual high court granted bail in two cases filed by Kotwali and Shahbagh police stations on charges of sabotage till the regular bench was opened with a division bench rule.

The state appealed to the Appellate Division seeking stay of the bail.

On May 15 of 2016, law enforcement forces arrested Aslam Chowdhury from Kuril Bishwaroad area of the capital.

He was shown arrested on the next day under Section 54 and was remanded for 7 days.

After receiving permission from the Home Ministry, a sedition case was filed against Aslam Chowdhury at Gulshan Police Station on May 26 of that year.
