77 more test positive for Covid-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 5, 2021 (BSS) – Seventy-seven more people were diagnosed with coronavirus (Covid-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues showing a rising trend in recent weeks.

“The 77 new cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples at two Covid-19 Laboratories in the division at the infection rate of 20.48 percent today,” Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

Among the 77 new patients diagnosed today, 34 were reported positive after diagnosing 188 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 34 new patients include 16 from Rangpur, eight Lalmonirhat, five from Kurigram, two from Nilphamari, one each from Gaibandha, Thakurgaon and Dinajpur districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS at 7 pm.

On the other hand, 43 other new infected patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The 43 newly infected Covid-19 patients include 41 from Dinajpur and two from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain said tonight.

Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that the number of Covid-19 patients climbed to 19,368 as 77 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of total 19,368 patients currently stands at 5,078 in Rangpur, 844 in Panchagarh, 1,591 in Nilphamari, 1,109 in Lalmonirhat, 1,251 in Kurigram, 1,728 in Thakurgaon, 5,990 in Dinajpur and 1,777 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
