RAJSHAHI, June 5, 2021 (BSS)- Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman National Gold Cup Football Tournament (Boys Under-17) and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib National Gold Cup Football Tournament (Girls Under-17)- 2021 began here today.
The District Administration and the Department of Sports of the Ministry of Youth and Sports are jointly hosting the five-day tournament at Freedom Fighters Memorial Stadium.
A total of 26 teams are taking part in the two tournaments.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Dr Humayun Kabir inaugurated the tournaments as chief guests before a large number of football fans and others concerned.
Among others, Superintendent of Police Masud Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shariful Haque and District Education Officer Nasir Uddin were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Dr Humayun Kabir said more talented football players are expected to come out from the tournament and they will play in national teams.
He added that the present government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been implementing diversified programmes to elevate the country’s sports sector.
