Two die of toxic gas inhalation in Bhola

BHOLA, June 5, 2021 (BSS) – Two people died of poisonous gas inhalation and two others have fallen sick while cleaning a septic tank in a house in Panditer Haat area of East Ilisha union under Sadar upazila of the district today.

The deceased were identified as owner of the house Abdul Malek, 50, son of late Taju Bapari and mechanic Md. Jasim, 35, son of Kalu Majhi, both residents of Panditer Haat area.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhola Model Police Station Mohammad Enayet Hossain said the under-constructed septic tank was closed for a long time.

Jasim and the owner of the house Malek inhaled toxic gas and screamed while they started cleaning the septic tank around 10 am today, he said.

After hearing shouts, two more people got down to tank to rescue them, but they also inhaled toxic gas, the police official said.

The OC further said that after receiving the news, the police and fire service personnel rescued them and sent them to the Sadar Hospital. Malek and Jasim were declared dead at the hospital, he added.

Dr. Md. Sirajuddin, the superintendent of Bhola 250-bed General Hospital, said the two died before being brought to the hospital.
