Covid-19 related deaths reach 407 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 5, 2021 (BSS) – The coronavirus (Covid-19) infection related death toll reached 407 as three more patients died during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today in the division.

Health officials said the new deaths were reported from Rangpur and Dinajpur districts where the infection and casualty rates are showing increasing trends while recovery rate is declining in recent weeks.

“Ninety-seven patients died from April 10 to June 4, the highest number of deaths in 53 days since the outbreak of the pandemic beginning in the division,” said Focal Person of the COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

The district-wise break-up of the 407 fatalities now stands at 100 in Rangpur, 151 in Dinajpur, 41 in Thakurgaon, 36 in Nilphamari, 21 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 23 in Gaibandha and 15 in Lalmonirhat.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.11 percent, which is the highest average fatality rate since the beginning of the pandemic in the division,” Dr Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Ahad Ali said the number of Covid-19 cases rose to 19,291 in the division as 59 more patients were reported after testing 379 samples at the infection rate of 15.57 percent on Friday.

“The district-wise break-up of total 19,291 patients currently stands at 5,062 in Rangpur, 844 in Panchagarh, 1,589 in Nilphamari, 1,101 in Lalmonirhat, 1,246 in Kurigram, 1,725 in Thakurgaon, 5,948 in Dinajpur and 1,776 in Gaibandha,” he said.

A total of 1,34,889 collected samples of all eight districts in the division were tested till Friday, and of them, 19,291 people were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.30 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed patients rose to 17,982 with the recovery of 21 more infected patients on Friday in the division where the average recovery rate stands at 93.21 percent.

“Among the total recovered patients, 4,669 of Rangpur, 814 Panchagarh, 1,526 of Nilphamari, 1,048 of Lalmonirhat, 1,115 of Kurigram, 1,575 of Thakurgaon, 5,522 of Dinajpur and 1,713 of Gaibandha districts,” Dr Ali said.

Of the 19,291 infected patients, 97 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 21 at ICU beds and five at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 17,982 people and 407 deaths while 850 are remaining in home isolation in the division.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine remained steady at 5,96,952 in the division since April 26 last, and among them, 3,86,710 got the second dose of the jab till Thursday last,” Dr Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged everyone to abide by the health directives for containing further spread of the Covid-19 infection.
