Mohammedan win despite Shakib’s failure in DPL

DHAKA, June 3, 2021 (BSS)—Country’s powerhouse Mohammedan Sporting Club registered their second straight victory in Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL), thrashing Partex Sporting Club by six wickets at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

The victory came despite the failure of star allrounder and team’s captain Shakib Al Hasan, who bagged a golden duck with willow before returning with expensive bowling figure.

Partex however put up 157-5, a score that looked good enough in this slow pitch but still Mohammedan made it two in the league thanks to Irfan Shukkur who blasted a 29 ball-52 not out to help the side canter to the victory with 14 balls remaining.

Shukkur got ably support from Nadif Chowdhury, who scored a 27 not out. Together with them, they shared an 80-run partnership for an undefeated fifth wicket stand to rally the side to the victory.

The partnership came at a moment when Mohammedan were struggling at 78-4 in 10th over. They though got a good start through Parvez Hossain Emon and Mahmudullah Hasan, but lost the way when Tasamul Haque struck twice in consecutive deliveries to take out Emon for 17 and Shakib for naught.

But Shukkur’s determination made it Mohammedan’s day at the end.

Partex’s innings was about opener Abbas Musa and captain Tasamul Haque. While a new player Musa hammered 64 off 44 with five fours and as many sixes, Tasamul hit 56 ball-59, clobbering six fours and one six.

No batsmen could stand tall apart from them which forced Partex to be left satisfied with this total despite raising a hope of making 180 plus runs on the board.

While it was Mohammedan’s second consecutive victory in the league, Partex now conceded defeat in their two matches.
