4 more die of Covid-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 3, 2021 (BSS) – Four more coronavirus (Covid-19) infected patients died on Wednesday raising the number of fatalities to 399 in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate remained above 20 percent during the last two days.

“Eighty-nine patients died from April 10 to June 2, the highest number of deaths in 51 days since the outbreak of the pandemic in the division,” Focal Person of the COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS.

The district-wise break up of the 399 fatalities stands at 97 in Rangpur, 147 in Dinajpur, 40 in Thakurgaon, 36 in Nilphamari, 21 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 23 in Gaibandha and 15 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

The average casualty rate stands at 2.08 percent in the division.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Ahad Ali said the number of Covid-19 cases rose to 19,163 as 78 more patients were reported after testing 390 samples at the infection rate of 20 percent on Wednesday in the division.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 20.63 percent on Tuesday, 15.04 percent on June 1, 18.38 percent on May 31, 16.67 percent on May 30, 16.67 percent on May 29, 12.77 percent on May 28 and 15.63 percent on May 27 last in the division.

“The district-wise break up of total 19,163 patients currently stands at 5,038 in Rangpur, 844 in Panchagarh, 1,586 in Nilphamari, 1,093 in Lalmonirhat, 1,235 in Kurigram, 1,705 in Thakurgaon, 5,893 in Dinajpur and 1,769 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,34,240 collected samples of all eight districts in the division were tested till Wednesday, and of them, 19,163 people were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.28 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed COVID-19 patients rose to 17,926 with the recovery of 43 more infected patients on Wednesday in the division where the average recovery rate stands at 93.54 percent.

“The 17,926 recovered patients include 4,652 of Rangpur, 814 Panchagarh, 1,525 of Nilphamari, 1,047 of Lalmonirhat, 1,111 of Kurigram, 1,570 of Thakurgaon, 5,494 of Dinajpur and 1,713 of Gaibandha districts,” Dr Ali said.

Among the 19,163 infected patients, 85 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 22 at ICU beds and three at High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds, after recovery of 17,926 people and 399 deaths while 786 are remaining in home isolation in the division.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine remained steady at 5,96,952 since April 26 last, and among them, 3,86,248 got the second dose of the jab till Wednesday last in the division,” Dr Ali added.
