Prime Bank survives scare to seal second straight victory in DPL

DHAKA, June 2, 2021 (BSS) – Prime Bank Cricket Club survived a scare before sealing their second straight victory in the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL) as they edged past Shinepukur Cricket Club by three wickets in a low-scoring game at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

Prime Bank earlier grabbed a seven-wicket win against Gazi Group Cricketers, while it was the second defeat in a row for Shinepukur who lost the first match to Mohammedan by the same margin.

Being sent to bat first, Shinepukur was skittled out for 119 in 20 overs and Prime Bank recovered from an early jitters to seal the deal with three balls remaining.

Tamim Iqbal gave the side a good start, hitting 27 ball-32 while he was ably supported by Rony Talukdar’s 26 off 15 but after the duo’s departure, Prime Bank lost wickets in a cluster that saw them reeled to 89-7 in 12th over.

Raqibul Hasan and Nayeem Hasan then kept their head cool and helped the side reach the winning target. Both Raqibul and Nayeem were not out on identical 18 runs.

Captain Towhid Hridoy was the top-scorer for Shinepukur with 29 runs. Opener Tanzid Hasan chipped-in-with 21 runs.

Offspinner Nayeem Hasan basically derailed Shinepukur with 3-18 and got apt support from Monir Hossain who returned figures of 2-15. Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam and Nahidul Islam played their part well, picking up one wicket apiece.
