Bangladesh marching forward under PM’s leadership: Hasan

DHAKA, June 2, 2021 (BSS) – Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said Bangladesh is marching forward under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

“Media workers of the country are also discharging their duties fearlessly during the pandemic (Coronavirus),” he told a virtual international web summit.

Hasan was addressing the inaugural function of ministerial-level two days leaders’ web summit on ‘Media’s role in Dissemination of Information on the Pandemic’ of Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) of Malaysia.

The minister said Bangladesh is one of the densely populated countries in the world. “The Bangladesh government has been able to control the Coronavirus situation and it has been only possible for the farsighted leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The people of the country didn’t face any food or work crisis”, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

He said the country left behind India in per capita income and the income raised to 2,227 US dollar. The position of Bangladesh is third among the 20 countries which achieved positive GDP growth during the COVID-19 situation, he added.

Praising the role of the mass media during the COVID-19 situation, the minister said the mainstream media of the country plays a pivotal role in giving right and proper information about Coronavirus to common people and in dispelling rumours. And the journalists performed their duties fearlessly, said Hasan.

He said hundreds of mass media personnel have been infected with the virus and many of them died due to Coronavirus. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has extended special assistance to all media men, he added.

Communications and Multimedia Minister of Malaysia Da Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah, Information and Cultural Affairs Minister of Nigeria Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Information Minister of the Philippines Jose Ruperto Martin Andanar and Deputy Minister for Information of Cambodia Dr. Sok Prasith addressed the discussion with AIBD Director Philomena Gnanapragasam in the chair.

Later, Hasan joined a function organised by the ministry on the occasion of farewell of Secretary Khaja Mia and retirement of additional secretary Jahanara Parvin.

The minister wished success of Khaja Mia at his new workplace at the Liberation War Affairs Ministry.

He also wished peaceful life of Jahanara Parvin after the retirement and praised her works.

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Murad Hasan also praised the two senior officials and wished their success.

Principal Information Officer Surath Kumar Sarker, National Institute of Mass Media Director General Shahin Islam, BTV Director General Soharab Hossain, BFDC Director General Nuzhat Yeasmin and Department of Films and Publications Director General SM Golam Kibria, among others, addressed the function.

Additional secretary Mizan-ul-Alam conducted the function.
