1st National Tea Day on June 4

DHAKA, June 2, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh will celebrate first ever ‘National Tea Day’on June 4 on the occasion of its golden jubilee of the independence.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today disclosed this at a virtual press conference.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the decision was taken at a cabinet meeting on July 20 to commemorate the outstanding contribution of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to the tea sector on the occasion of his birth centenary.

On this day, Bangabandhu became the first Bengali chairman of the Tea Board from June 4 in 1957 to October 23 in 1958, he added.

So, the first ever National Tea Day is being celebrated on June 4. The minister said the National Tea Day will be inaugurated at 10am at Osmani Memorial Auditorium and a discussion meeting would be held there.

On the day, there will be a daylong tea exhibition from different organizations and rare items of tea industry which kept preserved in Bangabandhu Pavilion and Tea Museum at Srimangal will also be displayed.

To mark the day, the role of the tea industry in the overall economic development of the country will also be recognized, he added.

The minister said once tea was exported but now it is not possible because of the increasing domestic demand for tea alongside its production.
