Gazette soon to scrap gallantry awards of 4 Bangabandhu killers: Mozammel

DHAKA, June 2, 2021 (BSS) – Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque today said the decision to cancel the gallantry awards of four convicted killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been finalized.

“A gazette will be published soon in this regard soon,” he told reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order at the Secretariat here.

The minister said that the decision to cancel the gallantry awards of four assassins of Bangabandhu and most of his family members has been finalized.

Earlier, at the 72nd meeting of the National Freedom Fighters Council (Jamuka) on February 9, recommended to cancel the gallantry awards of four killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.

The four absconding killers are: Nur Chowdhury, Shariful Haque Dalim, Rashed Chowdhury and Moslehuddin Khan.

Meanwhile, the High Court ordered the government to suspend the state gallantry awards of four convicted killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members.

Seven freedom fighters were given gallantry awards as Bir Shrestha, 68 were given the awards as Bir Uttam, 175 were given the awards as Bir Bikram and 426 were awarded as Bir Protik for their contribution in the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
