870 cartons cigarette seized at Shahjalal airport
DHAKA, July 23, 2018 (BSS) -Members of customs intelligence today seized 870 cartons foreign cigarettes worth around Taka 52 lakh from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here.
“We seized the cigarettes in abandoned condition while unloading goods at airport’s Lost and Found section at around 10 am today,” Director General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate Md Sahidul Islam told BSS.
Customs sources said a Saudia Airlines flight SV-402 landed at Shahjalal airport on Saturday, which came from Dubai via Jeddah.
“We received tip-off that a huge consignment of illegal cigarettes has come through the flight and has been sent to Lost and Found section at the airport. Today we raided the section and found the cartons in an abandoned condition,” the DG customs added.
A case has been filed in this regard.
