DHAKA, June 2, 2021 (BSS) –Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said BNP is now suffering from a severe crisis of public confidence.

“People have no interest in whether BNP remains in the country’s politics or not,” he told a regular press conference on contemporary issues at his official residence here.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said BNP leaders are claiming that they are very active in the country’s politics.

“We also want that they (BNP) remain in politics and play a responsible role of opposition party quitting their ill-politics and make constructive criticisms of the government,” he said.

“BNP is there but in a different way. So, people think since there is BNP in the country, there is arson terrorism too in the name of intrigue and movement,” the AL general secretary said.

About the BNP leaders’ statements over the treatment of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, he said these statements are worthless talks and they are deliberately doing so.

Quader said as the government is generous, the BNP chairperson is taking treatment from the doctors of her choice.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina suspended the jail sentence of Begum Zia on humanitarian ground and gave her chance to take treatment staying at her home, he said, adding “But they have no gratefulness.”

Commenting on the allegation of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir that the government is now isolated from people, the AL general secretary said if elections are the criteria of judging the isolation, then the recent elections, by-polls and other elections, including local government elections, have proved that the country’s people are in favour of the government.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s development and future politics has put a shadow of crisis on the plots and anti-development politics of BNP, he said.

So, he said, the BNP is now isolated from people and it has been suffering from election panic.

Highlighting the country’s development and achievements that took place during the tenure of the incumbent AL government, Quader said Bangladesh has turned into a developing economy under the bold leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“But the BNP leaders do not find any development in the country,” he added.
