Covid-19 infection rate crosses 20pc mark in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 2, 2021 (BSS) – The daily coronavirus (Covid-19) infection rate passed the 20 percent mark on Tuesday in the division after remaining around 15 percent during the last two weeks.

“The number of Covid-19 cases climbed to 19,085 as 78 more persons were reported coronavirus positive after testing 378 samples as the infection rate was 20.63 percent on Tuesday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui said.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 15.04 percent on June 1, 18.38 percent on May 31, 16.67 percent on May 30, 16.67 percent on May 29, 12.77 percent on May 28 and 15.63 percent on May 27 last in the division.

The daily infection rate crossed the 10 percent mark on March 24 last for the first time since December 26 last year in the division after remaining below five percent for over a month and again crossed the 10 percent mark on May 8 last.

“The district-wise break up of 19,085 patients stands at 5,021 in Rangpur, 842 in Panchagarh, 1,585 in Nilphamari, 1,092 in Lalmonirhat, 1,232 in Kurigram, 1,688 in Thakurgaon, 5,858 in Dinajpur and 1,767 in Gaibandha of the division,” Dr Siddiqui said.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,33,750 collected samples were tested till Tuesday, and of them, 19,085 were found Covid-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.27 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed COVID-19 patients rose to 17,883 with recovery of 39 more persons on Tuesday here where the average recovery rate stands at 93.70 percent.

“The 17,883 recovered patients include 4,637 of Rangpur, 814 of Panchagarh, 1,522 of Nilphamari, 1,045 of Lalmonirhat, 1,108 of Kurigram, 1,570 of Thakurgaon, 5,486 of Dinajpur and 1,701 of Gaibandha districts,” Dr Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of Covid-19 related deaths rose to 395 as three more fatalities were reported from Lalmonirhat and Dinajpur districts in the division on Tuesday.

The district-wise break up of the 395 fatalities stands at 96 in Rangpur, 145 in Dinajpur, 40 in Thakurgaon, 36 in Nilphamari, 21 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 22 in Gaibandha and 15 in Lalmonirhat districts.

The average casualty rate presently stands at 2.07 percent in the division.

Among the 19,085 infected patients, 80 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 23 critical patients at ICU beds and five at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 17,883 patients and 395 deaths while 761 are remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine remained steady at 5,96,952 since April 26 last, and among them, 3,85,887 got the second dose of the jab till Tuesday in the division,” Dr Ali said.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu suggested everyone to sincerely abide by the health directives to contain further spread of the lethal virus.
