World No Tobacco Day-2021 observed in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, JUNE 01, 2021 (BSS) – World No Tobacco Day-2021 was observed in the district in a befitting manner with a call to come forward for proper implementation of the Tobacco Control Act and create awareness across the country.

Company-er Kutchal Rukhey Daw- Tamak o Nicotine Theke Tarun der Bachaw
(Protecting youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco
and nicotine use)’.

Marking the day, Gaibandha district administration arranged a discussion at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner (DC) yesterday with additional DC (General) Md. Sadequr Rahman in the chair.

DC Abdul Matin addressed the function as the chief guest while Additional Police Super Abu Khayer, Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Md. Matlubour Rahman and District Primary Education Officer Mohammad Hossain Ali participated, among others.

The speakers emphasized on creating awareness to prevent tobacco consumption and to execute the laws and regulations properly to save the young generation.

Abdul Matin said the government amended the Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act, 2005 in 2013 and formulated Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Rule, 2015.

The government has declared that the country will be free from tobacco by 2040, he added.

The DC also warned all about the coronavirus pandemic situation and advised all to be careful in this regard.

A number of district level officials, social workers and NGO representatives including media men attended the function.

Besides this, various anti-tobacco organisations have chalked out limited programmes maintaining the health rules amid the current coronavirus situation.
