DHAKA, May 31, 2021 (BSS) – Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun today called upon all to work for the welfare of the workers.

“The country has to move forward keeping the workers well. Safety and security for workers should be ensured. Employers must have a liberal mindset in matters related to the interests of workers,” he said.

The minister said this while addressing a virtual dialogue titled “Elimination of Harassment in the Workplace and ILO Convention 190: Bangladesh Context” organized by Development Coordination and CARE Bangladesh, said a press release.

Lawmakers Shahjahan Khan and Meher Afroz Chumki spoke as special guests.

Former Bangladesh Bank Governor and Chairman of Development Coordination Dr Atiur Rahman moderated the dialogue while Director of CARE Bangladesh Humaira Aziz presented the keynote address.

Humayun said the government has been giving priority to the protection of women workers and is working for the empowerment of women.

“According to the ILO Convention, we have been giving priority to the interests of the workers in all fields including industrial factories. The present government is committed to the safety, security and elimination of harassment of workers in the workplace,” he said.

In particular, he said that the present government and Industries Ministry are working on a priority basis to create a women-friendly working environment in the factories.

“We will continue this effort until we achieve the desired goal of women empowerment,” he added.
