Covid-19 infection rate crosses 15pc mark in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 31, 2021 (BSS) – The daily coronavirus (Covid-19) infection rate continues rising and mostly remains above the 15 percent mark in Rangpur division during the past two weeks.

“The number of Covid-19 cases rose to 18,950 as 59 more patients were reported after testing 321 samples as the infection rate is 18.38 percent on Sunday,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui.

Earlier, daily infection rates were 16.67 percent on May 30, 16.67 percent on May 29, 12.77 percent on May 28, 15.63 percent on May 27, 9.05 percent on May 26, 13.91 percent on May 25, 13.26 percent on May 24 and 15.38 percent on May 23 in the division.

The daily infection rate crossed the 10 percent mark on March 24 last for the first time since December 26 last year in the division after remaining below the five percent mark for over a month previously and again crossed the 10 percent mark on May 8 last.

“The district-wise break up of 18,950 patients currently stands at 4,987 in Rangpur, 838 in Panchagarh, 1,579 in Nilphamari, 1,078 in Lalmonirhat, 1,219 in Kurigram, 1,679 in Thakurgaon, 5,806 in Dinajpur and 1,764 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,32,993 collected samples were tested till Sunday, and of them, 18,950 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.25 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed COVID-19 patients rose to 17,820 with recovery of 21 more infected patients on Sunday in the division where the average recovery rate stands at 94.04 percent.

“The 17,820 recovered patients include 4,619 of Rangpur, 812 of Panchagarh, 1,521 of Nilphamari, 1,041 of Lalmonirhat, 1,102 of Kurigram, 1,570 of Thakurgaon, 5,454 of Dinajpur and 1,701 of Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of Covid-19 related deaths remained steady at 392 as no more deaths were reported from anywhere in the division on Sunday.

The district-wise break up of the 392 fatalities stands at 96 in Rangpur, 143 in Dinajpur, 40 in Thakurgaon, 36 in Nilphamari, 21 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 22 in Gaibandha and 14 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

The average casualty rate presently stands at 2.07 percent in the division.

Among the 18,950 infected patients, 72 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 21 critical patients at ICU beds and four at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 17,820 patients and 392 deaths while 694 remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine remained steady at 5,96,952 since April 26 last, and among them, 3,84,271 got the second dose of the jab till Sunday in the division,” Dr Ali said.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu suggested everyone to sincerely abide by the health directives to remain safe from Covid-19 infection.
