SC stays bail of 7 in Sheikh Hasina convoy attack case

DHAKA, May 30, 2021 (BSS) – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has stayed the bail of seven accused convicted in the case for 2002 attack on the convoy of the then Leader of the Opposition and current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Satkhira.

An Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order today.

The court, in its order today, stayed the bail order for three weeks and asked the state to file regular leave to appeal against the High Court order.

The next hearing in the case has been fixed for June 20 in the Appellate Division.

Attorney General AM Amin Uddin appeared for the state in the court. While Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon appeared for the accused.

The High Court on May 25 granted interim bail to seven people, including Advocate Abdus Sattar, a former general secretary of the Satkhira District Bar Association, convicted in a lower court case.

The bail was eventually postponed till May 30 by an order of the Appellate Division on May 27.

The accused who were granted bail are Golam Rasul, Abdus Samad, Abdus Sattar, Zahurul Islam, Rakib, Shahabuddin and Monirul Islam.
