COVID-19 cases hit 33,746 in Khulna division, 31,147 cured

KHULNA, May 28, 2021(BSS) – With detection of 117 more positive cases in all ten districts of the division on Thursday, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients now hit 33,746 as 31,147 have been cured from the lethal virus.

A number of 117 new positive cases were reported after testing 162 samples at Khulna Medical College Laboratory and two others COVID-19 laboratories here in the last 24 hours till today’s noon, said Assistant Director (Health) Dr. Ferdousi Akhter.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 49 were detected in Khulna followed by 43 in Jashore, 11 in Bagerhat, 10 in Kushtia, three in Jhenidah and one in Narail in the division.

With the new cases, the district-wise break-up of the patients now stands at 10,087 in Khulna, 6,830 in Jashore, 4,875 in Kushtia, 2,895 in Jhenaidah, 1,946 in Chuadanga, 1,864 in Narail, 1,513 in Bagerhat, 1,498 in Satkhira, 1,253 in Magura and 985 in Meherpur, she added.

“Among the total 33,746 coronavirus infected persons, 4,324 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 31,147 have recovered and 628 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes”, Dr. Ferdousi continued.

The recovery rate now stands at 92.30 percent, she said.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities stands at 628 with five more death reported in last 24 hours.

The district-wise break-up of fatalities are 170 in Khulna, 110 in Kushtia, 78 in Jashore, 59 in Chuadanga, 55 in Jhenaidah, 45 in Satkhira, 41 in Bagerhat, 26 in Narail, 23 in Magura and 21 in Meherpur.

The average casualty rate is over 1.85 percent in the division.

On the other hand, a total of 146 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 103 others were released in all ten districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 12 noon today.

A total of 77,280 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10, 2020 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 76,402 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and 63,250 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.
