Tajul urges local representatives to be ready to deal with cyclone ‘Yaas’
DHAKA, May 25, 2021 (BSS) – Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam today urged all public representatives and all government officials at the field level to be fully prepared to face the impending Cyclone Yaas.
“We all have to be aware and take cautionary steps from our respective position to deal with the cyclone ‘Yaas’, and a control room has also been opened to monitor and coordinate all advance works with all agencies under local government division ,” he said.
Tajul came up with the directive at an emergency virtual meeting on preparation of Cyclone Yass, said a press release.
“District councils, upazila councils, municipalities, union councils, people’s representatives and other institutions of the local government department and other government institutions including district administrations play an important role in providing courage and strength to the people in case of any disaster,” he said.
“Local representatives have a close relationship with people of all walks of life that is why public representatives play an important role in making people aware of disaster and cope with it ,” he added.
“A control room (phone number (9545415) has been opened for supervising and coordinating all local government departments,” Tajul said.
He directed the officials concerned to keep in constant touch with other control rooms opened locally in the coastal areas with his ministry’s control room to deal with any situation.
The meeting was attended by senior secretary of local government department Helaluddin Ahmed, senior officials of local government department, mayors of Khulna, Chittagong and Barisal city corporations, deputy commissioners of coastal districts, chief engineer of local government engineering department and public health engineering department and managing director of Khulna WASA.
